Helena Kardová is a journalist and documentary film-maker based in London. She has sailed on a Finish icebreaker to capture the crew dedicated to this peculiar profession, travelled to a remote Japanese village to meet a potter who throws pieces large enough to serve as coffee tables and strapped into a snowboard to follow the head of avalanche safety in a Swiss Alpine town.
Helena is passionate about amplifying unique voices from far-flung outposts as well as closer to home. She studied journalism in Prague, Madrid and London. Her work has been published by The Guardian, Monocle, Konfekt, Apartamento, Agence France-Presse, Deník N, Hospodářské noviny, Heroine and Respekt magazine.
Before setting up her independent practice, Helena headed up the film department at Monocle. She has directed and filmed branded-content shorts for Adidas, Audi, Chanel, Marriott, Rosewood Hotels and tourism boards of various cities and countries.
